What is a Vegan Cow?

Vegan Cow LLC is a small business from Iowa City, IA, founded in 2008 by Christine Alexander, owner and operator of Fair Grounds Coffeehouse, vegan/vegetarian café 2006-2011.  Vegan Cow cheeses and sauces were developed and produced in-house for use in the café, but quickly developed into a profitable retail and resale venture.  Currently Vegan Cow vegan cheese products are being re-sold at two co-ops in the Iowa City area, as well as in regular use in their deli foods, and are in use at two pizza chain locations.

Because our cheese sauces are freshly made from all natural vegetable products, they are naturally lower in fat, sodium and calories than real cheese products.  But you will be fooled by how great they taste!  Vegan Cow brand vegan cheeses are 100% delicious and have a luscious creamy texture. Our cheese sauces are a perfect indulgence for anyone watching their cholesterol levels, anyone with a dairy-allergy, strict-vegetarians, ethical eaters, and anyone transitioning to a healthier lifestyle, but who still craves the creaminess and comfort of cheesy foods.

Can products be this healthy and still taste absolutely fantastic?  Yes, they can!  Because we place a tremendous amount of emphasis on the “freshness” of our products, Vegan Cow brand Dairy-Free Artisan Cheese Sauces beats the competition in taste and quality.  Our products are freshly made to order, packed immediately, and held in refrigeration both during transport and in the marketplace.

Vegan Cow cheeses and sauces are not only extremely delicious, but 100% natural, which means no unnatural or chemical preservatives are added to extend their shelf-lives, no color retention agents, no flavor enhancers, and no stabilizers.  Similar to real dairy products, Vegan Cow non-dairy products have a shorter, but normal and natural shelf-life in refrigeration.

The trade-off for making a fresh, natural product is simple: Quality.  Our products, like real dairy products, are creamy and bursting with flavor, and are made from recognizable wholesome ingredients.  Quality means you don’t notice the “use-by” date because you’re not going to have it that long!  Quality means the product is so good that you don’t care that it’s vegan.
